Delhi TET – Marking Scheme
Foundation & Main TET (Teacher Eligibility Test)
1. Simple Explanation
| Item | What it means | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Total marks | 200 | 100 questions × 1 mark each = 200 marks |
| Correct answer | +1 | You earn 1 mark. |
| Wrong answer | –0.25 | The examiner subtracts 0.25 marks. |
| Un‑attempted | 0 | No marks are added or deducted. |
Why negative marking?
The negative marking discourages random guessing.
If you answer a question incorrectly you lose 0.25 marks, but you still get 0.75 marks for the question (since you paid 1 mark and lost 0.25).
So the net effect of a random guess is –0.25 on average.
Passing mark
You need at least 50% → 50 marks in the entire paper.
2. Key Points
| Category | Detail |
|---|---|
| Paper pattern | • 100 multiple‑choice questions (4 options each) • 1 mark for a right answer • –0.25 for a wrong answer • 0 for a blank |
| Time | 2 hours (120 minutes) for both Foundation & Main TET |
| Sections | • Language (Hindi/English) • Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude • General Knowledge/Teaching Methodology (TET only) |
| Negative marking | 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer. |
| Unattempted | No penalty, no reward. |
| Scoring example | 70 correct, 20 wrong, 10 blank → 70 – (20 × 0.25) = 65 marks. |
| Pass threshold | 50 marks (i.e., 50 % of 200). |
| Cut‑off | Varies each year; usually around 60–70 marks. |
3. Worked Example
Scenario
A candidate’s answer sheet:
- Correct answers: 68
- Wrong answers: 15
- Blank (not attempted): 17
Step‑by‑step calculation
-
Marks from correct answers
(68 \times 1 = 68) -
Penalty for wrong answers
(15 \times 0.25 = 3.75) marks deducted -
Total marks
(68 - 3.75 = 64.25) -
Rounded to nearest whole number (Delhi TET scores are given in whole marks)
64 marks
Result
The candidate scores 64 / 200 → 32 % → fails (needs ≥ 50 marks).
4. Quick Revision Summary
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Total questions | 100 |
| Total marks | 200 |
| Correct answer | +1 mark |
| Wrong answer | –0.25 marks |
| Unattempted | 0 marks |
| Passing mark | 50 marks (50 %) |
| Time | 2 hrs |
| Penalty per wrong | 0.25 marks |
| Best strategy | • Answer all questions you are sure about. • Skip if you are unsure to avoid the 0.25 penalty. • Practice mental calculation of net gain/loss when guessing. |
Tip:
If you are certain about a question, answer it.
If you are unsure, skip it—unless you can eliminate at least 3 options, in which case guessing might still be worth it (average gain ≈ 0.25).
Use these points to verify your answer sheet before submitting and to practice quick calculations during the exam. Happy studying
